2019

Submission to Issues Paper – Productivity Commission: Indigenous Evaluation Strategy Project. This submission released in June 2019 was written by Just Reinvest NSW and is based on experience with Bourke Aboriginal community on Maranguka JR initiative. The collection, collation, analysis and reporting of data, and continuous evaluation are key to the data-driven approach adopted by Maranguka in Bourke.

2017

Submission to the Legislative Assembly Committee on Law and Safety inquiry into the adequacy of youth diversionary programs in NSW. This submission was written by Just Reinvest NSW in February 2017, and speaks to the social and economic costs of incarceration being unacceptable there being a clear and urgent need for a new approach to the delivery of diversionary programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in NSW.

2016

Submission to the Inquiry into Indefinite detention of people with cognitive and psychiatric impairment in Australia. This submission was written by Just Reinvest NSW in April 2016, and focuses on justice reinvestment as a framework to redirect funding away from prison and into treatment and rehabilitation services for Aboriginal people with cognitive and psychiatric impairment.

Submission to Inquiry into Economic Development in Aboriginal Communities. This submission was written by Just Reinvest NSW in February 2016, and argues justice reinvestment as a framework that would strengthen economic development in NSW Aboriginal communities that experience high levels of incarceration and high rates of recidivism.

2013

Submission to the Administrative Review of the Bail Act 2013. This submission was written by Just Reinvest NSW and published in August 2020, and is limited to a discussion on how the Bail Act and its implementation by bail authorities impacts on Aboriginal people in NSW, with a focus on its impact on young Aboriginal people – and what amendments to the Bail Act and its implementation should be considered.

The value of a Justice Reinvestment Approach to Criminal Justice in Australia. This submission to a Senate Inquiry was written by Just Reinvest NSW in 2013, responding to the value of a justice reinvestment approach to criminal justice in Australia.

This report edited by Jill Guthrie is an edited transcript of proceedings of a one-day forum convened in 2012 by the National Centre for Indigenous Studies (NCIS) at The Australian National University, posing the questions, Is Justice Reinvestment needed in Australia?, What does Justice Reinvestment mean in practical terms?, and Should Australia explore Justice Reinvestment as a policy option? 1991

The Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody Report, published in 1991. This inquiry was started in response to public concerns about the levels of Aboriginal deaths in custody. Read more about their recommendations through the link.
